About Me

Helloooooo!  I’m Jenny.

Quirky creator of whimsical collages and mixed media art, Possibilitarian and obsessor of cute handmade and all things rosy!

It’s my dream to add rosy cheer to your world through my happy and whimsical art!

I make kooky and colourful collages, greetings cards, prints, posters, scrapbooks and découpaged items, all with an uplifting and positive angle.  I create these from my rosy home studio here in Barcelona.

This Rosy Life was born a couple of years ago from my love of roses, a belief in finding the positive in eveyday life and the desire to create art that celebrates special occasions as well as making something special of the ordinary.

This Rosy Life for me is about living creatively and finding the beauty in everyday life.

❤ Being creative every day.

❤ Trying to be the best person I can possibly be.

❤ Trying to find the good in situations.

❤ Treating people with kindness.

❤ Treating myself with kindness.

❤ Celebrating everyday moments as well as the special occasions.

❤ Surrounding myself with things that are beautiful.

I’m passionate about handmade everything and believe beautiful items made with love and care are the way forwards in a world of mindless consumerism, where the end product is often completely divorced from its original maker.

I love flowers and colour and celebrating the everyday.  I believe in passing on compliments, the underrated importance of being kind and the power of positive thoughts and words.

My Story

Since the age of about 12 I have loved making personalised cards, collages and scrapbooks for family and friends’ birthdays and special occasions – there’s something about cutting out and fiddling around arranging small bits of paper in pretty ways I find immensely satisfying.  Yep, proud to be a nerd!  And if I can make someone’s day a bit better with something I’ve created, well how amazing is that??!!

I live with my beautiful husband and naughty-but- cute two year old son in Barcelona, which is a pretty amazing city to be creative in. There’s a lot of inspiration to be found here- the sun, the architecture, the art, the beach, the ocean, the cafes, the festivals, the language, the mojitos……I’ve been here 8 years now, and feel constantly uplifted.

My workspace is a small colourful and flower-filled studio which holds my desk, some shelves, boxes of art supplies, paints, pens, rubber stamps, vintage magazines, books and a lot of colourful and inspiring images and quotations, which I love to have around me.

My work is inspired by a lot of things.  Bright colours, flowers, fairytales and whimsy, women, female icons like Frida Kahlo and Audrey Hepburn, old films, nature, travelling and daydreaming about living a hippy life on a beach in Asia, the moon and stars on a clear night in the countryside, reading creative blogs and peeking into artists’ creative spaces, anything French….

I’m really happy when someone wants to buy something from me. I’m happy just to have made it and spent time doing something I love. I use a lot of images of women and flowers in my designs as I want to celebrate these amazing things.  These undervalued things. The joy and energy I put into my work transmits itself which is my small way of bringing a bit of positivity to the world. Spreading the love! So that when someone wants to give me money for doing that, well, what a compliment and what a pleasure!

  1. Links and ping backs confuse me. So I generally don’t deal with them, especially the ones that end up in my spam folder. Your’s however is just pending. And since you are also WordPress. I’ll think about it. Just give me a day or two. It looks like you have a nice blog here and I intend to bookmark it. I mostly deal with other writers, poets, but I also honor other crafty people. If you visit again please look at my Disclaimer page. That might give you an Idea as to where I am coming from. I don’t sell anything myself and have an add free blog. But I do make exceptions. Thank you for your patience and good luck with your family and your crafts. I have also sold some of my small crafts. But not on line.

  2. I’ve heard a lot about Barcelona, especially about Gaudi’s work. You and Jamie (and your husband) are fortunate to live there! I love your creativity! Go for it! It will take you where you want to go! with Love and Happiness, tomas ☼

    1. Thanks for your lovely comments, Tomas! We are lucky to live here, it’s such an inspiring and uplifting place to be, with beautiful buildings everywhere to be seen. Well, we’re here if ever you come and visit…!

  3. Jenny, after reading some of your posts and your ‘about’ section (the day of coming out of hospital, I can honestly say that you have brought a smile to my face!! I love the fact that you’re so happy & positive, life is wayyyy too short!! Well done you 🙂 xx

    1. Well thank you so much! You’ve just made my day! I don’t always feel it I can tell you, I’ve just made a commitment to focus on the positive because what’s the point of dwelling on the negative eh? Big Rosy love to you and your lovely comments xx

  4. Hi Jenny – this might sound like a silly question, but how do you make your collages? Do you use computer software? I love the idea of making collages as I used to be able to draw and now, after RSI, I can’t so much. But I have no idea where to start on making collages so any advice would be appreciated.

    1. Hello again, I don’t use computer software, everything painstakingly by hand! I’ve never been interested in doing it digitally so I really can’t give you any ideas.
In terms of making them by hand, the thing I love most is repurposing everyday and odd and old images-from vintage magazines, any old magazines, junk mail, old books, napkins, stuff I find on the street (Barcelona is so good for that). Find some images that you’re attracted to and just mess around, add some paint and gel pens and away you go! You know who really inspires me? Teesha Moore! She is amazing and has a lot of free You Tube turorials for her art journals and collages. Check her out, she’s so talented. Also Violette. Thanks for reminding me, I’m planning to do a post on my favourite inspiring resources.
Let me know how it goes, I’d love to hear.x
